[Guide to the Siratama Former Residence, a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, Part 2]
The traditional beauty of Japan, passed down through the ages.
The Siratama Former Residence features an “Inaka-ya” (country house), which was relocated from a former sericulture farm in the village of Ohara and transformed into a charming traditional Japanese-style room. Within its simple, rustic setting, you can experience the lifestyle of days gone by and the charm of traditional Japanese architecture.
Connected to this “Inakaya” by a circular corridor is the “Shōan” tea room, a three-tatami-mat room with a raised platform.
Shōan was relocated in Shōwa 49 (1974) after several years of work from the villa of Kondo Tomoemon, which had stood in Kōzōji, Kasugai City. It is said to have been built by the Hisada family, a tea-master lineage dating back to the Edo period, and is a tea room that has been passed down through history—from Kyoto to the villa in Kasugai, and finally to Siratama.
